Ummmmm, not a W123. If you are referring to the Mercedes Sedan in the beginning. That is a W116 450sel 6.9 Euro Spec. It is a whole different beast.

The title should be "Heres a car chase. because 6-9.

That's a good one but I like the scene earlier in the film featuring the S8 only, is shorter but I think the car handling is better showcased.

My dad has a story about how he did a technical course for Mercedes in the 70's and destroying everything in a drag race with one. He reckons they killed a lot of secretaries who weren't used to the hydropneumatic suspension.

Well it is of course the second iteration on the "Bankers Hotrod!!!" The 300sel 6.3 was the first gen and the then mighty 6.9 came afterwards, equipped with yet another complicated suspension system.

The XM was the replacement to the CX, which in turn was the replacement for the DS. It's not very well-known because it didn't have much of an impact or sell in great numbers, but it's basically a '90s update of the DS's recipe.
